Modernization has ushered in an era of innovation and misconception to a whole new level such that a lot of things that were unheard of, in the olden days have become normal. There are practises and indulgences that were considered to be a taboo has become the rev of the moment in these days. One of such practises is the matter of same sex marriage that has plagued the entire world today.
What is most sad is the fact that people no longer want people to express their ill feelings and speak about their convictions about this matter. Contrariwise, I feel that in a democratic society, people should be allowed to speak out their convictions on vital issues that affect the polity if the heritage of a people would be preserved and the future of the younger generation kept secured.
In a world were truth continues to be obscured and the possibilities of the people continuous to be maligned, it is pertinent that advocators of truth and verity begin to speak up. This is because, a people can only perish for lack of knowledge; ignorance is the greatest killer of men and not diseases, hardship or economy recession. Thus, the greatest favour a man can do to humanity is to seek to bring enlightenment on crucially sensitive issues that are wrong but celebrated in our modern society today.
It is in the light of this fact that I which to bring to you an exposition on the three reasons why gay or same sex marriage is considered a great sin against God, taking cue from the Bible and other sources.
1. Gay or same sex marriage is against the idea behind the creation of male and female: Now, one of the oldest books in the world is the bible. It is regarded as Gods instruction manual and many refer to the bible as the Will of God. Thus, if you want to know what God said about any topic, it is not out of place to consult his Will. Therefore, I will take bearing from this book.
As we see in Genesis 2, God created the man called Adam and Eve his wife. He didnt create Adam and Steve or Eve and Evelyn. God after creation saw that all the things that he created were good. He also commanded them to multiply, replenish, subdue and have dominion upon the earth. The bible added by saying that male and female, God created them. So, we can understand from the above analogy that the idea behind the creation of males and females was to multiply that is, reproduce and replenish that is, fill the earth.
Thus, if you have any union that would never reproduce young ones and not replenish the earth then, it is against the command of God. Also, if Gods command was given to Adam, the man and Eve, the woman then, if you are an Adam and a Steve or Eve and Evelyn coming together as husband and wife then, you are already against Gods command.
Noah was the man that God found worthy to preserve his creation after the flood that annihilated all humanity on the face of the earth because of their wickedness. Thus, the command that God gave to Noah after the flood as seen in Genesis 8:15-17 also confirms Gods idea for creation of males and females. God after the flood commanded Noah and his wife and his sons with their wives to be fruitful and multiply upon the earth and that was what they did.
Thus, it is the will of God that every marriage or union should continue to give birth to young ones or babies so that the command to replenish the earth can be fulfilled. Therefore, by this singular command, every same sex marriage has contravened or broken this command because, they can never reproduce young ones either naturally or artificially.
2. Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed because of Same Sex Marriages: It is pertinent for us to know that gay or same sex marriage is synonymous with homosexuality and lesbianism. According to the English Dictionary, homosexuality is a practise where a man is sexually attracted to another man. These men that practise this act are called Homosexuals. Also, lesbianism is a practise where a woman is sexually attracted to another woman. These women that practise this act are called Lesbians. Thus, for us to know how grievous the sin of homosexuality and lesbianism is, we must see how God treated those that engaged themselves in this act in times past.
As seen in Genesis 18, the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was great and very grievous before the Lord and God came to Abraham in the form of three angels and explained to Abraham why he wanted to go down to Sodom and Gomorrah by himself as seen in verse 20. God said that the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was great and very grievous.
When God arrived at Sodom and Gomorrah, he confirmed that indeed, their sin was great and very grievous. But how did God know this? God knew because, when the angels went down to Sodom and Gomorrah, they were hosted by Lot, Abrahams Nephew but the men of Sodom and Gomorrah wanted to have sex with these men as seen in Genesis 19. This was their custom in the first place, you can imagine that it was recorded that Lot begged the men of Sodom to leave the men whom I am calling angels alone but they refused. Lot had two daughters that were virgins and he offered to give them to the men to do whatever they wanted with them and leave these men alone but they refused to take the girls. They preferred men to women. What a perversion!
It was at this point that the angels struck the people with blindness and ordered Lot to go out of Sodom and Gomorrah because; God was going to destroy it with fire for its wickedness. It is truly sad that God couldnt get up to 10 righteous persons in Sodom and Gomorrah to spare them. This was the agreement God had with Abraham, Abraham pleaded on behalf of Sodom and Gomorrah and God agreed to spare them if he can only find 10 righteous persons in the city.
Only Lot escaped from the city of Sodom and Gomorrah and the rest were destroyed because, their sin was great and very grievous before God. Now, God has not changed, he is the same yesterday, today and forever. Thus, if God didnt spare Sodom and Gomorrah for same sex escapades, do you think, he will spare you now? I dont think so! Let God be true and every other man be a liar.
3. There is no way a culture can be sustained without people giving birth to children: According to a BBC documentary in 2020, it was established that a country needs to have a birth rate of at least 2.1 children per woman so as to sustain that population or culture as the case may be. In order words, every family must at least give birth to two children, if they would want their culture to be sustained in the nearest future. Thus, if you have a marriage where, two males or two females come together to satisfy their sexual pleasure without a goal to reproduce offspring then, the birth rate is good as zero and this means that a culture would never be sustained.
How many cultures are already going extinct unawares? They have imbibed a practise that is oblivious to the sustenance of culture, tradition and precepts but hope that all would be well in the end. How they lie! Let us bear in mind that we had established earlier that Gods command was so that the man and woman whom he had created would reproduce and fill the earth. Therefore, the earlier people begin to obey this command, the better.
Nowadays, social media, movies, magazines, channels etc, continues to promote practices that are inciting and enticing to the younger generation with the view to make money but hope that their hearts wouldnt be corrupted. It is sad that nowadays, even cartoon movies incorporate these practices and gradually the upcoming generation are beginning to feel comfortable with such practices as same sex marriage. They say that it is all about the rights of the individual and it should be respected. How things have changed indeed in the society.
I remember recently when Prince Charles was to be buried; Queen Elizabeth commanded that everyone should wear a strict dress code if they wanted to attend. This was when people wore all kinds of costumes but whether they liked it or not, they had to obey the royal decree. Where has such demonstration of the supremacy of culture over personal perception gone to? Are we getting tired in upholding the cultural practises, traditions norms and precepts handed down to us by our fore fathers? Why should practises such as same sex marriages be allowed in the church? If they decide to do it outside the church, I would not be so bothered but when I see it done right in the church, it becomes a challenge.
The church is supposed to be a place where truth and verity is upheld and the right precepts as seen in the bible are practised but it is quite unfortunate that a lot of pastors, priests, men and women of God have disappointed us and God. There are a lot of persons clothing themselves with dispositions that are stolen from holy writ and claim to be saints but are always playing the devil. This is what is referred to as hypocrisy. Jesus was always grieved at the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. Everything they did was to get the praise of men that is, they wanted to be in their good books but inside them, they were ravening wolves.
Thus, the earlier we return back to the order prescribed by God in his holy word, the better it is for the children yet unborn, the future generation and the world at large. A stitch in time, they say saves nine. Maybe, you are involved in this practise and you didnt know that it was wrong but now, you have known. It is not too late for you to change your ways and obey Gods command to replenish and fill the end. He, who has ears, let him hear. A word is enough for the wise.
